EDI Year at a Glance

Incoming EDI students are typically enrolled for four quarters: fall, winter, spring, and the following fall. Listed below are dates and events that make up a typical year in EDI.

Boot Camp

  • 3 week intensive boot camp
  • Begins Tuesday after Labor Day
  • Students present projects Monday before classes begin


  • Studio lunch, last Wednesday of the month
  • Homecoming 
  • Thesis studio, Tuesday evenings (2nd year students)
  • Design Innovation Challenge, mid-October
  • Bonfire, Sunday after Thanksgiving
  • Design Expo, weekend before finals week
  • Final Thesis Presentations & Fair, Thursday of finals week (2nd years)


  • Studio lunch, last Wednesday of the month
  • Individual advising, Wednesdays 8am
  • Portfolio review, Friday mornings
  • Design Expo, weekend before finals week


  • Studio lunch, last Friday of the month
  • Thesis kickoff, first week of the quarter
  • Thesis studio, Friday mornings
  • Design Chicago, first week in April
  • Graduation & send off reception
