Tom Schlegel is the Vice President of Product Development at Radio Flyer.  Over the past 10 years, Tom has built a talented team of designers and engineers in Chicago that has transformed the 96 year old company’s product line.  Since 2003, Tom and his team have developed over 130 new products and won numerous awards including two Outdoor Toy of the Year Awards.  For most of his 23 year career, Tom has worked in the toy industry designing toy products for companies like McDonald’s (Happy Meal Toys), General Mills, Hasbro, Toys R  Us, Ohio Art, and now Radio Flyer.  His education is a unique combination of a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a B.A. in Industrial Design which he received from the University of Notre Dame.  Tom speaks frequently at Universities and Conferences including his talk about “Why Failure is Always an Option” at the TED conference (TED University) in 2010.
