About

Robin Brewer is a PhD candidate in the Technology and Social Behavior program .

As a Segal Design Cluster Fellow, Robin is continuing her dissertation work entitled  "Understanding Interactive Voice Response Systems to Support Online Engagement of Visually Impaired Older Adults." Motivated by her own experiences with older family members, she seeks to understand new ways that people without mainstream forms of internet access can communicate and express themselves online. Through an iterative and human-centered design process, she has developed an IVR blogging system and deployed it to older adults with vision impairments. She is using this system to address questions of the role of technology in supporting identity development and self-expression of people with disabilities.
