NED Talks: Tom Stat

May 17, 2011, 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Ford Motor Company Engineering Design Center
ITW (1.350)
2133 Sheridan Rd. Evanston , IL 60208

Tom is a senior strategy consultant, innovation thought leader, teacher, speaker, author and facilitator in the world of innovation consulting and design thinking. Often irreverent, frequently provocative and sometimes amusing, Tom applies his eclectic background in social psychology, astronomy, engineering, architecture, fine arts and business to the often dysfunctional world of corporate strategy and concept development.

Tom was a senior leader at IDEO for 12 years, where he contributed to a wide variety of innovation consulting engagements, managed a number of IDEO’s key client relationships and directed business development efforts across all IDEO practice areas.

Tom has met Mohammed Ali, The Dalai Lama and John Lennon (not all on the same day) and continues to believe that his two greatest learning experiences involved eating lunch with a group of wild monkeys on the banks of a remote river in Indonesia and climbing Mount Fuji during white-out conditions.

Tom is on the board of Children’s Memorial Hospital and the steering committee of The Edison Awards. He is also a long-time TED-izen, a father to two daughters and still cuts his own lawn. He’s also constantly trying to figure out gravity.
