Designing for the Top and Bottom of the Triangle

How does the experience of developing hi-tech products for the world’s wealthy help to produce robust solutions for the worlds poor?

Andrew Samways is a Design Engineer with the SRAM Corporation based in Chicago, currently working on developing a low cost bicycle, in conjunction with Word Bicycle Relief, for use in developing countries in Africa.

Having spent most of his career to date working in various areas throughout the design process, Andrew has experienced many of the successes and inevitable pitfalls of trying to produce innovative products on time and on cost.

Andrew has no real plan for the future but prefers not to do the same thing twice. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Engineering Design from the University of Huddersfield and a Masters Degree in Industrial Design Engineering from the Royal College of Art.
