DFA Summer Studio is a six-week full time summer (August – September) design workshop that engages undergraduates and recent graduates in social impact design projects in the local community of the hosting university. Participants exclusively focus on their projects and are free from pressures imposed by for-credit academic coursework.
The aim is to simultaneously design and implement effective solutions to real problems, transfer human centered design skills to community partners, foster leadership skills, and provide opportunities for students to use their academic expertise in engineering in a meaningful and applied way.
Solutions are shared broadly to benefit the community. Professional design coaches, academic faculty, and prior Summer Studio participants mentor the project teams.
