The new course, Data as Art, was co-offered by Northwestern and SAIC this summer.Segal faculty members Bruce Ankenman and Steve Franconeri teamed up with faculty from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to offer a new course this summer called "Data as Art".   Ten engineering students and eleven art students took the course, which concluded this week.  An exhibition of work from the course is on display at SAIC from August 16-September 13.

Daniel Ha, a sophomore in the MaDE program, participated in the course.

The course combined big data with collaborative research, studio arts, and visual communication design, enabling the engineering and art students to translate mountains of information into visual art.   Topics covered in the course included computer programming and the history of graphic visualization.
